Marram Silhouette
Taken at sunset and exposing for the sky to give a silhouette.
This is Ammophila arenaria, or European Marram Grass and also known as a beach grass where it is to be found, in this case Formby. Marram is both Xerophytic and Halophytic, meaning it can tolerate dry and (moderate) salty conditions respectively. These characters allow Marram to help stabilise and build sand dunes, where they are exclusively found. The genus name of Ammophila. Literally means ‘sand lover’ and the name derived originally from Greek.
